Well, the lines quoted here does not need any introduction. These are from the Legendary movie " Titanic" and there is so much of takeaway from this. One of the deep insights which I wanted to share with all of you is how true observer - Jack Dawson was.

Before going further in detail, Let me explain my perspective of " Darshan" Or "Observing something".

Darshan is not just seeing. It is the process of observing and being observed back. Hence it is a two way relationship. It is nothing but perception but without judging . If it is a true " Darshan", we will see things in the way they are without any layer of our judgements or prejudice. When true darshan happens, we should attain a feeling of peace, happiness and high self worth. The two way relationship can be between us and the Divine or it can even be within our relationships in our day to day life. " Darshan" is thus very commonly used in Hindusim

in reference to visiting a temple for praying a deity.

It is a very deep topic which I can not go into very detail, but I hope I have given a sense of what it means.

I will like you to watch this video of what Jack Dawson says and observes in this classic scene of Titanic where he is invited to the first class and has dinner with Rose, Cal ( Rose's fiancé), Cal's mother and few other guests. He is staying in third class and his entry to this occasion has no fear or complex of being poor. He is as comfortable as he can be and extremely candid in his communication with the " Fine People", as he calls them in this scene, and provides us an invaluable lesson.

Please watch this scene before reading any further.

Cal and his mother are bitter towards him and she asks his stay experience and how does he has the means to travel on Titanic. Jack does not falters in telling his truth and his eye contact denotes " True Darshan" . He is observing without any prejudice for them. He is having a two way relationship with them where they might be observing him with judgement but he is not. He is not ashamed of his background and it shows that he has a high self worth. He respects himself a lot and even does that without dis-respecting anyone on the table. Rose tries to impress upon everyone on his painting skills but he does not try to do so even once. Even a comment on it does not affects him. He has no reaction and is calm. It just inspires me and makes us think , what if - all of us could be so emotionally intelligent?

He does not hate them for being rich or being sarcastic with him as he understands them. He therefore calls them " You fine people" and mentions this as a gift to be able to observe these moments and appreciates them.

To summarise , he qualities for being a true observer with below qualities:-

1. He observes. He does not judge

2. He shows humility and compassion.

3. He provides respect to all people on the table and appreciates them as " Fine People"

4. His eye contact resonates with Darshan

5. He has a high self worth

6. He is proud of his limitations and understands them with dignity.

7.He is ready to learn and grow with life.

8. He appreciates all moments and lives for the moment. Thats why he says after this trip he is on God's good humour.

9. He is the happiest on the table being a true observant which is the same feeling we all feel after Darshan.

Number 9 has a huge significance with " Darshan" which we can have a conversation upon in a separate topic if someone starts this conversation.

It's by chance that I finished with 9 summarised points on my insight from this scene.

I would love your reaction and comments on my insights.

With warm wishes and positive vibes only

Yours NK
